LCA Group Getaways

Building Connections, Independence, and Life Skills through Shared Experiences

At LCA, we understand how crucial it is for young adults to build relationships, spend time with peers, and experience life in new ways. That’s the goal of our Group Getaways program.

Our Group Getaways provide young adults with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy short, fully supported weekend breaks in South Australia and Victoria. These weekends are not just about fun; they’re focused on helping participants work on their NDIS goals, meet new people, and explore a variety of new experiences—all within a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Life Skills Focused on Independence and Personal Growth

During the Group Getaways, participants will work on developing essential life skills that support their independence and help them meet their NDIS goals. These skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Personal Care and Hygiene: Learning and practicing self-care routines to maintain hygiene and health.
  • Cooking and Meal Preparation: Participants will be involved in meal planning and preparation, focusing on nutritious and balanced meals.
  • Budgeting and Financial Skills: Developing skills to manage personal finances, including budgeting, understanding financial transactions, and making responsible decisions with money.
  • Self-Care and Emotional Management: Practicing strategies for managing new situations, dealing with stress, and understanding emotions in a supportive environment.
  • Communication and Social Skills: Building better communication skills and fostering social connections with peers, helping participants become more confident in social situations.
  • Transport Training: Learning to use public transport (buses, trains, etc.), a vital step toward increased independence and mobility.
  • Increased Self-Esteem: Through problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork exercises, participants gain self-confidence and learn to navigate new challenges.

These skills are not only essential for maintaining independence but also support personal growth, improved social interactions, and greater confidence in daily life.

Building Independence Away from Home

Travelling and spending time away from home helps individuals build independence, confidence, and essential life skills in a new environment. Whether it’s learning to manage daily tasks on their own or adapting to new social settings, these getaways provide participants with the chance to grow in ways they may not have experienced before.

Not a Holiday – A Path to Your NDIS Goals

Our Group Getaways are more than a fun weekend; they’re a structured opportunity to work on your NDIS goals through Short Term Accommodation (STA) funding. This means that while the experience is enjoyable, the primary focus is on personal development, social inclusion, and skill-building.

According to NDIS guidelines, funding for Short Term Accommodation (STA) is available if the following criteria are met:

  • The need for STA is directly related to your disability.
  • It supports your NDIS goals, such as building independence, developing new skills, and improving functional capacity.
  • It provides opportunities for community participation and social interaction.
  • It offers value for money within your NDIS plan.
  • It provides respite for carers or informal supports.

At LCA, we ensure our Group Getaways meet all of these criteria, giving participants the opportunity to develop new skills, explore new environments, and build the confidence needed for more independent living.

How Short Term Accommodation (STA) Helps

Short Term Accommodation is available under the NDIS to help participants live out of home for a short period, supporting them in pursuing their goals, increasing independence, and providing much-needed respite for carers. LCA’s Group Getaways offer the perfect combination of fun, growth, and support to help participants thrive.

Our getaways allow participants to try new things, build social connections, and develop critical life skills—all while focusing on personal goals that contribute to long-term independence and well-being.
