Home is where you should be able to make choices about your day, enjoy familiar routines and spend time doing things that matter to you.
At Limestone Coast Ability (LCA), our Supported Independent Living service offers practical help with everyday life at home. We work with you to understand the support you need and the skills you would like to build.
What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding for support workers to help or supervise you at home 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It may suit you if you need a worker to stay with you throughout the day and overnight, help with daily activities for at least eight hours, and provide some help or supervision for the remaining hours.
Depending on your needs and agreed supports, assistance may include:
- Personal care, such as showering and getting dressed.
- Planning, preparing and cooking meals.
- Household tasks, including cleaning and laundry.
- Developing daily routines and practising everyday living skills.
SIL is one of several home and living support options. If you need only a few hours of support each day or week, another option may be more suitable.
Understanding SIL funding and costs
The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) decides whether SIL can be funded in your NDIS plan, based on your disability support needs and the NDIS funding criteria. Funding and support arrangements vary between participants.
SIL funding pays for eligible support. It does not pay for your home, rent, groceries or everyday bills such as electricity, water, telephone and internet. Regular community participation may require other NDIS supports, so those arrangements need to be considered separately.

Your home and living arrangements
Where you live and who you live with are personal decisions. We will listen to your preferences and discuss whether LCA can provide suitable support in the arrangements you are considering.
SIL relates to your daily support. Housing and any tenancy arrangements need to be considered separately. Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) relates to specially designed housing for eligible participants. Some people have both SIL and SDA funding in their plans.
Support shaped around you
We start with your routines, preferences and the things you would like to do for yourself. You can choose to involve family members, carers or other people you trust in these conversations.
Shared or individual staffing, overnight support and service availability will be discussed in relation to your assessed needs, plan and the arrangements LCA can provide.
If you need medication assistance or other health-related support, let us know so we can discuss the relevant plans, worker skills and whether we can safely meet those needs.
