Limestone Coast Ability (LCA) Day Options Program

The Day Options Program at Limestone Coast Ability (LCA) is designed to empower individuals with disabilities through a wide range of activities focused on developing essential life skills. Set on our expansive and beautifully maintained 3-acre property, Roseville, the program provides participants with the opportunity to enhance their independence, build meaningful relationships, and improve their overall well-being in a supportive and engaging environment.

At the heart of our program is the commitment to promoting independence and personal growth. Our dedicated and highly trained staff work closely with participants, helping them develop the skills they need to lead more autonomous and fulfilling lives. By focusing on individual strengths and goals, we ensure that each participant receives tailored support to reach their potential.

The Day Options Program offers a diverse range of activities that not only develop essential life skills but also provide significant benefits to participants’ mental and physical health. Learning activities focused on community safety, in-home safety, and personal well-being are crucial for maintaining independence and confidence, ensuring that participants are equipped with the knowledge to navigate their daily lives safely and effectively.

Life Skills Development

Our Day Options Program prioritises the development of life skills that are essential for daily living. These skills empower participants to take control of their lives and live with greater confidence and independence. Some of the key areas we focus on include:

  • Personal Care and Hygiene: Learning to manage personal grooming and hygiene independently.
  • Cooking and Meal Preparation: Participants gain skills in planning and preparing nutritious meals, fostering self-sufficiency and healthy habits.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Practical lessons in money handling and financial skills, such as budgeting, understanding transactions, and making informed financial decisions, which are crucial for maintaining independence.
  • Self-Care and Emotional Management: Developing strategies to cope with new situations and stress, which promotes emotional resilience and self-regulation.
  • Communication and Social Skills: Enhancing participants’ ability to communicate effectively and build social connections.
  • Transport Training: Learning how to navigate public transportation systems, including buses and trains, which fosters greater freedom and mobility.

Skill Building Through Technology

In today’s technology-driven world, staying up-to-date with modern tools is essential. At LCA, we integrate technology into our skill-building activities to ensure participants are equipped for the digital age. Through hands-on sessions, participants develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while enjoying the process of creating and learning.

  • Computers: Training in basic computer skills helps participants improve their digital literacy, allowing them to communicate, research, and explore new interests.
  • 3D Printing: Introduces participants to design and manufacturing, encouraging creativity and hands-on problem-solving. They gain valuable skills in technology and innovation while creating tangible objects.
  • Cricut Crafting: Participants explore design work with the Cricut machine, producing personalized items like cards and decorations, which fosters creativity and fine motor skills.

  • Swimming Program: Our swimming sessions offer a fun, low-impact exercise that promotes physical fitness, coordination, and relaxation, all while building participants’ self-esteem.

Daily Fundamental Learning Sessions

Each day begins with 20-minute fundamental learning sessions, where participants engage in key life skills training through fun and interactive activities. These sessions cover critical topics such as:

  • Community Safety and Road Safety: Ensuring participants understand how to navigate public spaces safely.
  • Social Skills and Relationship Building: Developing effective communication skills and fostering healthy social interactions.
  • Safety at Home: Learning about in-home safety to promote confidence and independence in daily living.

We foster an environment that provides opportunities for participants to practise these skills through practical activities throughout the day, ensuring they can apply what they’ve learned in real-life situations.

Community Engagement

A core component of our Day Options Program is community engagement. We organise regular outings that provide participants with the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world settings, whether by shopping, attending local events, or practicing road safety. These experiences help participants feel connected to their community, build social confidence, and apply their learned skills in meaningful ways.

Pet Therapy

Our pet therapy program allows participants to interact with animals, including guinea pigs, sheep, ducks, and birds. These interactions offer emotional support, reduce anxiety, and foster a sense of companionship. Engaging with animals helps participants develop empathy and social skills while also providing a calming, therapeutic experience.

Sports and Physical Fitness

We also offer a range of sports and physical activities, tailored to each participant’s abilities and interests. These activities promote physical health, improve coordination, and build team spirit. Whether it’s participating in organised sports, swimming, or outdoor games, participants enjoy staying active while developing their motor skills and physical fitness.

A Path to Independence and Fun

Through engaging activities, skill-building opportunities, and practical life lessons, the Day Options Program at LCA provides participants with the tools they need to live more independent, fulfilling lives. Our emphasis on life skills development, combined with fun and interactive sessions, ensures that each participant gains the confidence to thrive both at home and in the community.
