Supported Employment

Work can be a chance to use your strengths, meet people and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to a team. At Limestone Coast Ability (LCA), we welcome a conversation about what you want from work and the support that could help you feel more comfortable in your role.

Whether you are settling into a workplace or would like extra help with your daily tasks, tell us what matters to you. Together, we can explore whether LCA’s Supported Employment service is a good fit for your needs and goals.

Support that starts with you

Everyone brings different interests, skills and experiences to work. We take the time to understand your role, the tasks you enjoy and where you would like support.

Our focus is practical, disability-related assistance in the workplace. We can discuss how support might fit around your work routine and, with your agreement, involve your employer or other people who support you. The type and frequency of assistance will depend on your needs and the support LCA can provide.

Practical support at work

Depending on your needs and agreed support arrangements, assistance may include:

  • Learning work tasks: extra guidance and practice to help you become familiar with your duties.
  • Following a routine: prompts and step-by-step support to help you organise and complete tasks.
  • Working with others: support to understand instructions, communicate your needs and take part in your team.
  • Personal care: assistance with disability-related personal care needs during your working day, where this is agreed and within LCA’s service capacity.

We will talk through what you need and whether we can provide suitable support before making arrangements.

Understanding NDIS funding

The NDIS may fund additional support you need at work because of your disability, such as extra assistance with work tasks or personal care. Funding depends on your individual circumstances, your plan and the NDIS funding criteria.

NDIS funding does not replace support that is the responsibility of your employer or another employment program. This includes reasonable workplace adjustments and the ordinary training and supervision an employer provides to staff.

Before support starts, the services, costs and how they will be paid for need to be agreed. If you are unsure how your NDIS funding can be used, speak with your NDIS contact or support coordinator.

For current information, read the NDIS guide to employment. JobAccess also provides information about workplace support and adjustments.
