At Limestone Coast Ability Services, we offer Supported Independent Living (SIL) services to assist individuals with disabilities in living as independently as possible while developing essential life skills. Our dedicated staff work closely with participants to provide help and supervision with daily tasks, ensuring you have the support you need to thrive.
What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is help and/or supervision of daily tasks to aid participants in living as independently as possible while building their skills. In SIL, trained and dedicated staff are there to support you in reaching your individual NDIS goals as well as assisting you with daily tasks. These include but are not limited to:
– Skills development
– Medication management
– Meal preparation & cooking
– Domestic & household tasks
– Meal planning & grocery shopping
– Assisting with & maintaining high standards of personal care
– Support to attend appointments
– Social support in the community
– Support to increase independence
– Money handling and budgeting skills
– Encouraging & supporting peer relationships
SIL is provided in your home, which can be shared accommodation. It’s important to note that SIL funding does not cover expenses like rent or day-to-day costs such as groceries. Instead, SIL is designed to assist individuals who have high support needs and require significant help throughout the day.
If SIL is determined to be the most suitable support for you, funding for these services will be included in your NDIS plan. The amount of funding provided will depend on your specific support needs, helping you maintain independence in the housing option of your choice.
Choosing Your Living Arrangement
At LCA, we empower you to decide where you want to live. Whether it’s your own home, a Housing SA property, a private rental, or a residence managed by a community housing association, the choice is yours. As a participant in our SIL program, you will enter into a rental agreement with your chosen housing provider, while we supply the necessary support staff to help you thrive in your environment.
